Macy moving to Maybrook in December 2020

May 13, 2020

Dear Macy Families,

It is with great excitement that I announce the beginning of construction at Macy this coming December. Funds from our successful Measure LL Bond will be used to bring roofing up to date, modernize heating and cooling units and give some much needed attention to our school. This will mean that Macy school will be relocated to our Maybrook site from January 2020 through July 2021.

The decision to start construction earlier than expected, mid-year, was not an easy one. However, with construction cost quickly dropping to historic lows, and with the project at our Olita site ahead of schedule, the District has determined that the time to move is December. The projected cost savings is close to a million dollars, which allows us to even more efficiently use our residents' valuable tax dollars. It is our responsibility to provide for our students while managing our citizens tax dollars as prudently as possible; therefore, our Board of Trustees and our Administration have decided we simply cannot wait if we are to make the most of this opportunity and make necessary improvements for the safety and well-being of our students.

While details of the move have not been completely finalized, every attempt will be made to minimize the effects of this move on our students. Moving of materials is tentatively scheduled for the last week of instruction, December 14-17, 2020, with the students finishing December at Macy and starting the New Year at the Maybrook site. Parents will be kept informed throughout this process, as decisions are made and plans are finalized. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we carefully move forward.

Although this will certainly be a challenge, the end result will be a school that is updated and safer for our students. Feel free to call with questions to the Macy office or Jim Coombs at the District Office at (562) 943-0211.
